Candle Care 101: How to Get the Most From Your Candle

A beautifully crafted candle does more than scent a room—it creates an atmosphere. With proper care, your candle will burn cleaner, last longer, and smell better from first light to final glow. Follow this simple candle care guide to enjoy a safe, luxurious burn every time.

1. The First Burn Matters Most

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow it to burn long enough for the melted wax pool to reach the edges of the container. This typically takes 2–4 hours, depending on candle size.

Why it matters: This prevents tunneling and ensures an even burn for the life of your candle.

2. Trim Your Wick—Every Time

Before each burn, trim the wick to about ¼ inch.

Benefits of wick trimming:

• Prevents soot and smoke

• Creates a steady, clean flame

• Extends candle life

3. Burn Time Guidelines

For safety and performance, avoid burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

• Drafts or open windows

• Fans or air vents

If debris such as wick trimmings or dust fall into the wax, remove them before lighting. Clean wax helps maintain a clean flame and strong scent throw.

6. Know When to Say Goodbye

Discontinue use when about ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the container.

This helps prevent overheating and protects your surfaces.

7. Store Candles Properly

When not in use, store your candles:

• In a cool, dry place

• Away from direct sunlight

• With the lid on (if provided)
